WHAT IS THE LVA?

The Lantern Association (LVA) was formed in 1991 by residents on Silver Lantern who were sick and tired of slumlords, drug dealing and other unacceptable conditions in the neighborhood.

Our Mission: We are dedicated to the continuing improvement, maintenance and upgrading of property, reducing overcrowding, improving public safety and enhancing the overall character and desirability of the historic Lantern Village.

LVA members are residents, property owners, property managers and business owners who work together for the betterment of the Village.

We promote neighborhood education, advocacy, long term planning and collaborative relationships with other interested groups. LVA is also a member of the Dana Point Civic Association, which is a city-wide “Town Meeting” Group.

The LVA is strictly a volunteer group. There is no compensation for any officer or board member. We are a California non-profit 501c4 Corporation.

IS THE LVA A PAC?

The LVA is not a Political Action Committee (PAC). Individual members have the right to be politically active but the LVA as an organization does not endorse or oppose candidates.

HOW DO WE GET RESULTS?

There are a number of ways that the LVA works to improve the quality of life in the Lantern Village. We use our member network to identify problems in the Village and work with the City to resolve them. There are little jobs and big jobs for volunteers – it’s up to you. What are you passionate about?

HOW CAN YOU JOIN US?

We are always seeking new members who embrace our mission, goals and values. Most members are residents, homeowners and property owners in the Village. The membership fee is currently $25 / year.

WHAT ARE THE FEES USED FOR?

The annual fees are used for membership and community-wide mailings, supplies, meeting room fees and other costs specifically related to LVA goals and approved by the Board. All LVA Board Members, Officers and Members freely give their time to help the community.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

As a volunteer organization, we are only as effective as the people that share their time to get things done. The only way we can be effective and improve the quality of life on your street is for you to actively participate in the process to the extent you can.

There are a number of ways to help. You can write a letter to the City Council, help stuff envelopes for a mailing, help select Pride Award recipients, or identify problems in the community. You can contribute by paying your membership fees or also volunteering your time.

TThe LVA has maintained a very proactive relationship with the City of Dana Point working especially close with the Code Enforcement Department and the Sheriff’s Department. With your help, we can maintain what has been accomplished and make the historic Lantern Village an even better place to live and raise a family. This area is as good as it gets. The St Regis, Ritz Carlton, the Marriott and other fine hotels, restaurants and businesses know it and so do we!
